One of Europe’s leading producers of canned fish KARAVELA last week presented a new plant-based canned seafood product range under the new brand FISH PEAS. 

Following more than a year of in-depth market research and substantial investments of around 2,5 million EUR, KARAVELA will launch a new plant-based canned seafood product range in the market together with a new brand FISH PEAS which will represent it. Extensive experimentation with more than 100 different recipes has resulted in the development of an innovative plant-based seafood product range - salads, spreads, and flakes. All products are made from the most sustainable plant protein  – yellow pea which is one of the most sustainable plant proteins, based on carbon footprint estimations in cultivation, processing, drying, and waste management. All products are marked with different labels, like Clean Label, Gluten Free, Allergen Free, NON-GMO, etc. which means that products are very healthy.

 FISH PEAS product range aims to satisfy the growing global demand for food that supports a sustainable lifestyle. It’s not a secret that plant protein has a much lower impact on the environment than products of animal origin, with the latter contributing to 83.5% of greenhouse gas emissions in an average diet. 

Currently, there is a lack of understanding about how plant-based seafood products should taste. We are planning to change that, combining our extensive experience as a canned fish producer with sustainable innovation in the realm of plant-based ingredients. With the launch of our vegan products, we plan to become trendsetters in the plant-based fish product market leading the way for other brands that want to create new vegan products and tastes.
